Serious Question About the Tax Cuts Bill?

If Democrats control congress as of now, why don't they just pass a bill with increased taxes on the rich, BEFORE Republicans come into office?

The Republicans threatened that, should the tax cuts not be extended now, then when they have control of the house in January, they will halt ALL legislation. Because they're childish and don't give a damn about the people. You know, like every politician.

    Serious answer for you:

The GOP has "changed" the rules of the Senate to require 60 votes to pass virtually anything. It even requires 60 votes for Obama to fill bureaucratic middle-tier posts. Heck, one Republican held up a nominee because he was unhappy with a CANADIAN law restricting the sale of candy flavored cigarettes.

The Democrats do not have 60 votes, as Blue Dogs vote with the GOP block.

They do not want to be the ones who vote in the biggest tax increase in history, that's why. Why do you think that they have been passing on this all along? They are going to get exactly whats coming to them when they allow it to happen too.
