understanding cultures?

Do you think we should focus on larger, regional zones than discrete civilizations or cultures in order to understand historical change?

    I think we should include both perspectives in anthropology. I think anthropologists do, along with geology, weather, tools available, and so on. Guns, Germs, and Steel did a good job of working in all kinds of angles.
