what is it called when someone tells you something to think you have it?

Say someone gave you steroids during a soccer match in a drink you drink it and then you do your best thinking you have steroids? think the word started with a d not sure

    Placebo effect. That is assuming you meant that it was actually just water the whole time.

    Hypochondriac... I think this is the word you are looking for. It's when someone hears/reads/knows someone with a disease or infection and the symptoms and you think you have the same symptoms, so you think you have the same disease...
