a gun of course, and why one? haw about 3? a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun!
a pistol- something in 9mm caliber is ideal. its low recoiling, ammo is easy to get and (somewhat) cheap. lots of models and brands to pick from. I have a Hi Point C9. not the best handgun ever, but the best I can get with my sub $200 budget. it has a few drawbacks- weight, ugliness- but doesn't lose to hi end handguns in accuracy and reliability. As a first pistol I'd recommend the 9x18mm or .380 caliber, recoil is alot less and you'd probably be able to hit what you're shooting at much easier. Handguns in my opinion are the hardest to shoot well.
a rifle there are many kinds. bolt action, lever, pump, semiautomatic. you can buy a tactical carbine, a fighting rifle, military surplus, anything pretty much. I was a WASR-10 AKM variant and a Mosin Nagant military surplus rifle. Both "fighting rifles". the AKM is easy to shoot and accurate (at indoors ranges anyway) and people know what it is so if they're smart they'll leave right away. The Mosin Nagant is a huge rifle, bolt action, WW2 surplus. Powerful, accurate, rugged, reliable. both rifles have very high levels of penetration, if you miss you are likely to endanger others around you. that's the drawback of rifles. some people may choose a FAL, M1A, M1 Carbine, Garand, CETME, AR15 types, Mini 14 type, or a pistol caliber carbine.
finally shotgun. its pretty simple. three choices: a double barrel break action "coach" shotgun, simple easy to use, 2 shots between reloads. the Mossberg 500, popular, reliable, rugged, 12 or 20 gauge pump action shotgun, 5+1 magazine capacity. Remington 870, 7+1 magazine capacity ,12 gauge, pump action.
shotguns are the easiest to use weapon. just load and point, shoot. if you use #4 birdshot or #4 buck you have a fairly low chance of hitting neighbors while still being effective with your weapon.
alarm system- pfft. the gun is more than enough, just lock your door ans windows, maybe security film on windows to prevent them being busted in, and heavier dead bolts on doors.
taser, stun gun,. pepper spray- for losers who can't buy guns. if you must have them, might as get one of each. always go for gun first, then this stuff.
pistol: Hi Point C9 with 5x10rd and 1x8rd magazines. 115 gr FMJ
rifle: WASR-10/63 GP AKM variant rifle, 10x30rd, 10x10rd magazines. Yugo militayr surplus FMJ
shotgun: Western Auto Revelation (store brand version of Mossberg 500) 5+1 20 gauge. #3 buck and #4 birdshot.
alarm system? pfft. I keep my hi point next to my bed.
no taser, stun gun or pepper spray. instead I have a machete and a bit of steel pipe (in the garage).
