Why Do You Boil Cold Water To Make Tea Or Coffee?
I was always taught to boil cold water to make tea or coffee. Why can't you just heat hot tap water to a boil to make tea or coffee?

It is important to use cold tap water for cooking with as the warm water taps may have lead or other contamination because of older water pipes - before 1980 were often lead or cast iron - now most water pipes are plastic or copper - but copper pipes are welded with lead.., Lead (pronounced led) is not good for you and it can leach out into the hot water. Boiling water brings out the best in the tea leaf. As for coffee - coffee pots that you add the water to, in the top of the pot need to use cold water as they heat it up themselves.Source(s): Food science and safety

No it's fine if you boil either one. Unless like, you have a separate water supply for hot water that's contaminated or something.

Look at your sentence. Think about it. Hot water from the tap is already hot...and it will work fine. Boiling water is hotter.
