Why did GOP Senate Filibuster/kill ‘Creating American Jobs and Ending Off-shoring Act’ (S. 3816) bill?

It was passed in house with both GOP & DEM support as was 428 other bills the GOP Senate filibustered to death. Here is a link to a summary of the bill:

Here is a link to the ‘full text’ of the bill:

Why does the Senate GOP fight our recovery tooth & nail – especially by killing S. 3816? Is their lust for power more important than our economy and unemployed?

  • If you were able to understand the text you linked-to it would be OBVIOUS to you that "Creating American Jobs and Ending Off-shoring Act’" is an extremely DISHONEST name.

    1) It offers a ONE TIME incentive for incurring a LONG-TERM liability

    2) It taxes things you NO LONGER DO. Reduce your payroll? You STILL HAVE TO PAY THE SAME PAYROLL TAX.

I realize that as a Democrat you are REQUIRED to act as though you really believe those things would be helpful. 100% of the sane know better. I'll bite though. Go ahead:

    > Explain how spending MORE for the SAME service INSTEAD of spending on MORE SERVICES promotes recovery as you claim.

    > Explain how being taxed MORE promotes recovery as you claim.

This is typical of democrat thinking, why fix the problem, just deal with the aftermath.

Here is the problem, this kind of long complex law causes more companies to leave because you need to buy hundreds of legal hours to follow the crap they put out.

How about this idea, lets start burning the pallets of this mumbo jumbo the congress writes yearly, lets shrink government and let the people make products and build their businesses. This will attract people here rather than forcing them to stay.

Lobbyists for companies that would lose money by limiting their outsourcing have more power in congress it seems then the congressmen themselves. Also remember that China would lose money due to this bill and they have a lot of power over our own government (since they have purchased much of the US debt). In reality, until we as a country can figure out how to become debt free and energy independent, other countries that we depend on currently (due to them buying are debt or that we buy our oil from) will have more say in our government then the average American does.

Because we failed to see the 'logic' of the liberals using a tax increase to prevent high taxes from driving jobs overseas.

The only thing this new tax would have done is ensured that the money earned by US companies overseas - would remain overseas and never return to the US. (Who in their right mind would move money to the US when the government will simply grab 42% of it?)

Maybe you liberals should try to think out of the box and try a reform that does not involve new or higher taxes.

There is no telling how many amendments were added on to this thing that were payoffs to various constituencies. I smell 'union' thuggery in here somewhere.

You can force companies to hire union scale workers all you want too. All they will do is relocate their parent headquarters overseas. Or they will become uncompetitive and eventually close the doors to their operation.

I am glad they killed it. It will not work.

It is possible they didn't support the bill because of the tons of pork attached to it. That's what the Dems do. They attach billions and billions of dollars of pork to a bill and then cry when the Republicans don't want the bill in that form.

Because "ending off shoring" would kill jobs. Why do Dems try to label exprnsive job killers as "recovery"?

Im guessing it was full of pork and other things in the bill that had nothing to do with creating jobs

  • They understand the government does NOT create jobs. Private businesses do.

Their priorities are screwed up. They would rather see Obama fail than actually do the jobs they were elected to do.
