President Kennedy refused his salary as President. Back then, the salary was only $100,000 a year, but whether you like his family or not, they have always freely given their time and money in the thousands to charities, most notably Special Olympics worldwide. It would be a nice gesture since now a President has so many perks and would never suffer a day on the job, at least monetarily.

Mandela is, in my opinion, the most respected man on the planet. He is an awesome role model for anyone to follow.

No, because South Africa and America are two completely different places requireing different strategies for success. And to Blue lotus the founders were extremely rich. They were all well educated and the majority owned slaves. In fact to be a politician back then you had to be rich because the government didnt have the power to tax. So by paying our politicians we ensure that anyone whether they be poor or rich have the oppurtunity to run for office.

Yes. But I would much rather have them take pay cuts than put their excess salaries in a charity. They'd probably create a charity that would return their money to them.

If they all took a pay cut, the budget would probably balance out a lot easier than it is now. I'm not saying that's the final solution, as many other areas need to be streamlined in order to meet the deficit, but that would be a very good start.

I think it would be better served if instead of donating the money they took a pay cut and accepted the same pension as the military. They also should have the same health care as the military. If it's good enough for us, it's good enough for them.

  • In fact if you serve "The people" you should have a small salary. Isn't that what the founder's did? How are all these people so f*Ing rich now?

Yes, Obama should follow his example, people are suffering while the politicians are living in luxury.

Many Republicans accept only $1 per year for their service

While liberals like Pelosi demand Air Force Jets for the personal use of themselves and their family

which shows one of the many differences between liberals and conservatives
