What is an affective cue?

I'm doing an experiment for my Research Design & Statistics course. In my intro I want to cite an article from Hunter, Schellenberg, and Schimmack (2008). The article's purpose is based on that issue, but I don't know what it is. Could anyone help me out?

The results of study confirmed all of the hypotheses that researchers had made. Songs with happy cues (fast tempo, major mode) triggered happy perception and feelings and songs with sad cues (slow tempo, minor mode) triggered sad perception and feelings among participants. Songs with mixed cues (fast-minor or slow-major) triggered mixed perceptions and feelings among participants, with perception of mixed emotions being much stronger than mixed feelings.
