What's with old people and butterscotch candies?

Butterscotch came into existence around 1851, and was very different than anything on the market at the time. It quickly became a "Special Treat" and was widely sought after. A chcolate bar doesn't last very long, and it can make a mess of a person's fingers and clothing. A butterscotch candy is sweet, doesn't make a mess, and it takes a nice long time to dissolve in your mouth. Elders who are apt to have dry mouths, scratchy throats etc, and these hard candy delights make the perfect lozinge, double as a cough dop in a pinch, are a tasty treat..AND ..they carry them to pop into a child's mouth as a quick way to shut him up. <wink>
