You probably don't need an xray.

Sounds like you could have carpel tunnel syndrome. It occurs from repetitive movements for long periods of time (texting, video games etc.)

You can get a brace for your wrist to help with the tingling sensation and any pain.

You should go to the doctor tho'.

It can be a lot of reasons, and that's why they want to do an x-ray to see if they can narrow down the problem. Texting, video games, or an injury that you're not aware of could have caused something to be hurt either in the joints or ligaments of your thumb. An x-ray will tell doctors if there is a problem with your skeletal system, the bone, tendon, ligament, etc., or if it's something else in the tissues and blood.

Sounds like it could be repetitive strain injury. If its not it still sounds like soft tissue damage which would not show up on an x-ray. Best thing to do is visit the doc and get their opinion. Probably just tell you to rest it for a bit.
