why do stars flash red and blue
Best Answer
It's caused by the star light passing through Earth's atmosphere. Temperature differences, density differences, smog, all effect the color of star light as well as making it flicker.

The flicker is due to the Earth's atmosphere. Similar to when on a hot summer day you look down a long road and the distance is shimmering.
