I have the math problem answers- I need to show how to get them?

With the current, a boat can travel 48 m.p.h. in 3 hours.

Against the current, the boat requires 4 hours to travel the same distance

1.) Find the rate of the boat in calm water

2.) Find the rate of the current

Do I solve through substitution or elimination ?

Well, I have the answers; but I have to show how to get them. The boat speed in calm water is 14 m.p.h., and the current speed is 2 m.p.h. I have come up with 3 or 4 different answers

    b = the rate of the boat in calm water

    c = the rate of the current

    (b+c) * 3 = 48

    (b-c) * 4 = 48

    b+c = 16

    b-c = 12

    add

    2b = 28

    b = 14

    subtract

    2c = 4

    c = 2
