Why does the MLB, NBA and NHL have teams in Canada?

If MLB, NBA and NHL are USA-Owned leagues, why do they each have a franchise stationed in Canada? Couldn't those 3 leagues have found another state in the USA to station the teams that they currently have in Canada? The MLB relocated the then-Montreal Expos to DC and renamed them the Washington Nationals. The NBA relocated the then-Vancouver Grizzlies to Memphis under the same team name (Grizzlies). Why don't all 3 leagues do the same for the remaining teams located in Canada? I never understood that.

MLB, NBA and NHL are not "USA owned leagues".

The "Original Six" NHL teams had two teams in Canada - Toronto and Montreal.

    MLB expanded to Montreal.

NBA expanded to Toronto and Vancouver.

Having teams in Canada is not a deterrent to any of the leagues. Team owners and local fans determine the financial longevity of the franchises - Expos, Grizzlies.

It's the same with teams in the USA - several have relocated over the years.

    MLB -

    Braves: Boston>Milwaukee>Atlanta

    Senators: Wash DC>Minnesota

    Pilots: Seatte>Milwaukee

    NBA -

    Lakers: Mineapolis>LA

    Warriors: Phila>San Franciso>Oakland

    Clippers: San Diego>LA

    Jazz: New Orleans>SaltLakeCity

Canada is a great sports country and the relationship with US based pro teams has been very good over the years. Regardless of which of the two countries a team is located, it all comes down to economics to determine it viability and success from a business standpoint.

    Simple.

The franchises in Canada are making money. The ones that have been moved weren't making money. Keep in mind that in the case of the NHL, you would be talking about moving 6 teams from the country where the league has it's roots. As far as the NBA and MLB, the only teams in Canada are in Toronto, which is a very large city, so large that if it were in the USA it it would be the fourth largest metro area, behind only New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. Makes a lot more sense to have teams there than in some little podunk American city.

Well I guess they have teams for the whole North American continent, which includes Canada. Beside it's only one city they take, and that's Toronto. That city is popular enough to fit in with American teams.

Sombrero Galaxy Has a Split Personality

NG 4594 is a flat, disk shaped spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo. At least astronomers thought it was a spiral galaxy. Thanks to new data from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, it now appears that NGC 4594 is two kinds of galaxy in one, a galactic split personality, making it the Sybil of the cosmos. These new findings appear in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
