Should the US pass a law similar to the UK than Sperm Bank Donors are not immune to Child Support claims?

It would reduce the number of claims to the media about the 75% of single mothers being owed child support and not getting any, despite having never filed for any.

Donation have dried up, quite literally. They are now importing from the US.

The man should not be forced to pay for the child when the mother chose to be a single mother. He donated sperm so that a couple (presumably) could conceive a child if they themselves could not for some reason. For a single woman to go into a sperm bank and thus have a child and try to sue the donor (whom would have speculated that he would have no connection with said child) is ridiculous.

The mother is the only one then responsible for the child. The donor did his part, she has no claim to his money because without his donation, she would not have her child.

Case law has been established in both the UK and US that sperm donors *can* be sued for child-support. Money has been awarded.

Child-support law is dominating; the biological parents are responsible for that child's life.

The circumstances of conception are not relevant.

Even if a women commits statutory rape, once the boy comes of age he is *still* responsible for child-support.

Even if the child is /adopted/, if the adopting man dies the biological father becomes responsible for child-support once again.

"Crazy" or not - these are the laws of our land.

I think that would be disgusting. A sperm donor is helping women who otherwise can't get pregnant by any other means (infertile, lesbian or ugly). They shouldn't have to pay child support just because the women are money-hungry harpies.

You've got to be kidding me.

No wonder we severed relations with the UK. If what you say is true, that is one of the most effed up things I've ever heard.

What's next? Are you going to ask whether the estates of organ donors can be sued if their organs don't work and the patient dies? Are you out of your mind?

SB donors should NOT be required to pay any kind of child support payments!

The UK does not have such a law.

The law you appear to refer to is about the right to anonymity, not child support.

Why should a man be forced to pay for a child when the mother chose to be a single mom.

    It's wrong.

No. this isn't fair. If a woman chooses to have a child alone thorough insemination, then she is choosing to bear this burden alone. It isn't right to change the rules of the game midstream.
