When coming up with names for your characters you might want to go for something that has a certain level of symbolic nature. Such as when you connect your characters with, let's use a well known children's poem, Jack and Jill it can create a deeper connection with the reader.

You could also go for something stemming from "The Knights of the Round Table". Although, since you're going for the perspective of a guy cheating on a girl you could go with 'Lance', which is short for Lancelot, and Guinevere, which you could modernize into something like Ginny, which would reverse gender roles of who is cheating on whom. This would be especially symbolic if 'Lance was cheating on 'Ginny' with her best friend.

You could also look to mythology for inspiration. Using names like Zeus and Hera would connect both characters to an already long history of adultery. Which would most likely make your reader go "Hey, this seems familiar," and it could either give or take away from the experience depending on how you write it.

Let me know if your story gets published I would love to read it. You're going to have a hard time making this one a new read, it's been done a lot. But I would love to see what you do to make it a new experience.

    Good Luck,

    Jonathan Lindsey

Depending on the period of history in which the book is set, I'd give different names. I'm going to assume it is the modern United States. For the guy I would use a relatively common but stereotypically "jock" or "prep" name. Nolan, Bryan, Chase, Michael, Ryan. For the girl I would either give a name like Hope, Destiny, Lilly, or something symbolic like that OR I'd use a relatively common name so girl's can easily identify with the character like Ashley, Brittany, Lauren, or Katie.

I have several ways I pick names. 1) I'll use my favorite names at the time. 2) I'll pick first or last names (never both for one character) from my favorite movies or books. 3) The internet! I usually just go to google and type in "Baby names." I'll insert like, "Japanese," "German," or "French" before "baby names" if I'm looking for a certain ethnicity. Some of the sites I use are in the sources! 4) I'll make up names by combining words around me if I don't need real names. Internet + ethnicity = Iciter Japanese + sources = Cespa (Ok those two were lame, but they were off the top of my head.)
