I just put in a bottle of STP fuel system cleaner into my 1988 volvo 740 gl. it started billowing gray smoke.?

It is a very old car, Been trying to get it back into shape. I put it in the gas tank and then drove home from walmart and it was billowing grayish smoke, tons of it. I believe its cleaning out my engine but is that normal? if it keeps going how can i stop or fix it.

That is normal, it is doing what it says on the bottle.

Just keep driving your car on preferably on quiet roads, and it will eventually finish cleaning out your engine.

    Good luck *smile*

BTW I am from the Uk we are kind of good with cars.

Actually your car engine is just trying to burn something that isn't gasoline. You would have done your engine a better favor by running a couple tanks of premium fuel. No, it isn't cleaning your engine. It's causing it to smoke.
