I spent a fabulous holiday week in Slovenia with my family in summer 2007, and wholeheartedly recommend people to visit this true hidden gem by the Adriatic Sea! Our main stay place was the town of Portoroz, famous for its salt pans and luxurious spa hotels. And of course from its wonderful cafés as well! The capital city Ljubljana is very pittoresque, though as a downside it is quite small. Therefore it's highly recommended to do only a day trip to Ljubljana, and in addition you could also visit the unique Postojna caves, the wonderful mountain area of Julian Alps, experience the stunning views down towards Lake Bled from the Bled Castle in Bled, the small and pittoresque towns of Piran, Koper and Izola, do some outdoor activities by the Soca River and near Triglav National Park, and if you choose to visit Slovenia in the winter, do some skiing in Maribor or Kranjska Gora.
