Well.. it doesnt pass the 1/2 + 7 test...
27/2 + 7 = 20.5...
20.5 < 19
Just barely missed it. Oh well, you could still go out with him, but just be aware of his intentions, as guys who try to date younger women usually do so because they are unable to get women of their own age. Its possible that they are just not mature enough or that they are losers at life. I cant say for sure though because I dont know the guy.
"he is not a boy. He is only a boy if he his chick is like 40 or something (boy toy or whatever). If he dates you... he is a man.
A real man."
- I ride Zebras to the Mall
Umm, a little confused with the logic here, how would a 27 yr old dating a 40 yr old suggest that the guy's a little boy? How would he be on her level of maturity? I'd say most 40 yr olds have high standards of their partners and have lifestyles incompatible with those of "boys."
In fact if the guy dates a younger person that suggests he is not capable of the responsibility involved in dating another 27 yr old. At 27 people think of buying houses and cars and settling down.
I never said 1/2 + 7 is an absolute rule, it just happens to work MOST of the time..
"Real" men have moral compasses that extend beyond that of the written law.
1) Where in the dictionary does the term "boy toy" imply that an older guy dating a younger woman is a "man". The term "boy toy" does indeed suggest that the young man dating the older woman is not as mature as the older woman - you are correct in this respect. However, this does not mean that the inverse of this is true, an older guy dating a woman is not necessarily the opposite of a boy toy - or a man. Furthermore most cases in which younger men dating older women occur because the guy is mature, and intelligent for his age. Otherwise what does the woman have to gain?
2) Your experience does not speak for everyone else. I have parents that preach to me, not to date anyone who is not Indian, yet I am currently dating a caucasian woman. Dating interracially also has absolutely no ethical component involved where as dating out of age range does - in the possibility that one of the parties might be taken advantage of due to lack of experience/maturity.
3)The age of consent is a law. It MUST be obeyed otherwise you go to prison. This does not mean that it is prudent for a 60 yr old to date a 16 yr old. Sure it can happen, and its legal, but why? Hugh Heffner is a great example, he gets 21 yr old chicks in his 80's b/c he's got dough. You think these chicks are potential for a lasting relationship? Please you're delusional.
4) The case of your origin does not equate to the case of anyone else's origin. I never said its a horrible idea to date and marry someone 20 yrs older than you. All I'm saying is that from a societal point of view its creepy. But you dont have to care about what society thinks right? Do what you want as long as its legal. Furthermore, people dont often date outside of age range because not because of the stigma, but because it plain doesnt work most of the time. Not everyone has an insane amount of money.
All checks refuted, fail much?
Ageism and racism are not of the same mentality. They are both forms of discrimination but they are based on differing reasons. In our progressive society we choose what to discriminate on and what not to. We have laws based on gender and sexual discrimination, but does this mean that everyone is EXACTLY the same? No it doesnt. Poeple differ in their abilities, their skills, their backgrounds. To say a Asian guy is better at math than a white guy is racist. To say a 60 yr old is better at math than a 5 yr old IS NOT AGE-IST, because its probably true.
Its funny how you took multiple occasions to cite my potential lack of IQ as a source of my reasoning, even though you have no basis for this assertion. Your claims are based on select examples that you have seen. Where as mine are based on the average, the norm for society. How does IQ play in to this argument anyhow? It doesn't. People imply that others are dumber or have lower IQ's than themselves when they have nowhere else to turn in their arguments, i.e. when they have no other way to defend themselves.
