why they blindfold falcons?
why falcon's eyes will be covered by their breeders?
Thanks for the answers. But it seems it is inhuman to blindfold a bird. It is as good as blindfolding human beings. Why the animal and bird lovers not objecting it?

Falconers "Hood" their Falcons, for transporting and to prevent them getting their eye's on quarry that the Falconer does not want them to pursue when released.
The Hood is removed when quarry is sighted by the Falconer and then the bird.
Breeders hood the young to allow them to get used to the Hood.

Blindfolding a hawk or falcon with a hood calms it by making it think it is night. This reduces the risk of impetuous behaviour. Hope that answers your question. =]

They do it to all Birds Of Prey. Mostly to calm them down and so there not bitten on the hand. Also so that they calm down to tell if there a boy or girl. They also do it to relocate them. It helps to move them and save there energy. Also, believe it or not, it shields there eyes!

"Breeders" don't
The falconers DO. So they can be more safely handled,vetted,moved.....
& not just falcons,of course-all raptors.

It helps to calm them down and also preserves their vision for the job they are assigned to do.
