All doctors will tell you not to drink alcohol if you have a fatty liver because drinking can make it worse. Even though this is true, I doubt that drinking once in a great while is going to make any big changes towards it leading to liver failure. You have to be reasonable and have some common sense about it. A lot of people have fatty livers that does not lead to liver failure, but a small percentage will progress to being a more serious problem. Now if you would drink daily on top of a fatty liver, your chances of liver failure will increase greatly, but I don't believe once in a while is going to make any big changes. Keep in mind that I am not a doctor, but this is my opinion from what I have seen and experienced from my own disease and others who have liver failure. By once in awhile, I'm talking maybe once every 4 months or so and then please don't get falling down drunk. Use some common sense and try to control yourself some.
I had cirrhosis and a liver transplant.
