What happened to the Huguenots when the Edict of Nantes was revoked?

    Tens of thousands left France, not for the United States (which didn't exist at the time), but for England and the Netherlands, which were much closer and Protestant states.

    They could only meet out of the public's sight. In the 1600s over 300,000 fled to the United States.
