To the answers above. Although Colombians produce it i s your respective countries and countrymen who consume it.

In Colombia traditions vary from region to region as they have been affected by indigenous/ African and Spanish traditions.

I can tell you some of the Christmas Traditions. For Colombians Christmas is a month long celebration. I think they can apply to most or at least a big part of Colombia.

Dec 7/8 . Dia de las velitas/luces. "Day of candles and lights" It's basically 2 days of fireworks. Some people make or buy paper lanterns with candles inside and hang them outside their houses. Paper balloons are also lit and flung. That's when people usually start decorating christmas tree, and other decorations as well as nativity scenes. Nativity scenes can vary in size but some are quite elaborate with a village, river/lakes different animals and figurines.

Dec 16-24 "La novena". Every night for 9 days kids and adults go from house to house that have a nativity scene "Pesebre" and they sit in front of it and read passages from the bible that describe the story of Jesus' birth, Each night a different part of the story. They also sing songs and play instruments like maracas or tamborines (some kids make their own) They are given candy. In the Nativity scene the 3 Magi are moved closer to the stable where baby jesus are born each night. Baby Jesus is not supposed to be present until Christmas night.

Dec24 -25. Starting Dec 24 night. All families get together and have dinner and drink and party. They sit around the Christmas tree and open gifts from family members. At midnight Jesus is born and the little baby Jesus in the nativity scene is placed there. This also a signal for kids as it is tradition that "El niño Dios" to bring gifts for kids (instead of Santa Claus)

Dec 31. New Year. Celebrated like in other countries. The only twist is that sometime during december people make "El Año Viejo" it is basically a persons made by stuffing old clothes and usisng women pantyhouse to make the hands and head. They are decorated to make them look funny and people sit them outside their houses for last weeks of the year. At midnight theay are stuffed with fireworks and burned to symbolize the end of the old year and welcome the new year. This is an old tradition so it might be done by the lower classes and in rural areas or small towns.

January 6. The 3 Magi finally arrive. Kids are usually given a small present. This is technically the official end of Christmas although some people see Dec 31st as the end.
