is travel to Nigeria safe?
I have always wanted to go there because it looks like an interesting country. but first off, I know that riots happen somewhat often, and violence is more frequent than in america.
Also, I have been told by at least a few people that Nigeria is anti-american and most nigerians will try to kill anyone with light skin. I find this kind of hard to believe but no one has told me that it's not true. So would it be safe for me, a white american, to travel to nigeria?

No, There are not riots often, it is actually once in awhile and it is only in one state or city of Nigeria called Jos, which is North of Nigeria, Tourist never go to those parts, it is actually the southern parts like Lagos or in the middle like Abuja tourist go to. I must add that there are not riots in the south, southwest, or southeast of Nigeria. When it comes to Anti-American thing it is not true, majority of Nigerian have no ill will against Nigerians, but in the North of Nigerian which is inhabited by the Hausa tribe, which is a Muslim majority there is a small minority of Muslim fanatics that don't really like western world at all. Last but not least when it comes light skinned people thing it is not true, there are no race issues in Nigeria, I don't know who told you that but it is not true, it is a majority black country but racism doesn't exist there, so it will be safe for a white American to go there, there is no problem. In conclusion it is safe to travel to Nigeria, there are no 24/7 rioting that happen in all of Nigeria, it only happens once in awhile, which is only in one state or city which is Jos, Nigeria. Racism doesn't exist there, there are minority races that live in Nigeria you know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria#Ethno-linguis... and they get along with the Black majority there and vice versa(the only country in Africa that seems to have a racism issue but has decreased over the years is South Africa besides that the rest of Africa is racism free). So as a tourist the only states(or cities) I would advise you to not go, which most Nigerians don't go to either are Jos & Port Harcourt but the rest of Nigeria is fine like Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Kano, and more you will enjoy beaches, festivals, and more:

Nigeria is a really interesting country, especially because of the diversity. Its so diverse that when travelling within it one often wonders if they're still within Nigeria. There are deserts and beaches, savannahs and forests, extremely rural villages, and yet, extremely cosmopolitan cities.
LOL, there is no cannibalism so no one will eat you. However, certain towns are prone to religious riots in the Middle Belt of the country.
Nigerians are friendly people and are not anti-white, but there are kidnapping issues in the Niger-delta region and being a white makes one more attractive to kidnappers (because it calls global attention). The Niger-Delta crisis is actually because american companies are drilling oil and destroying the environment. Right now that area has suffered more damage than the recent oil spill in North America, yet no one is doing anything about the plight of the people. You can't blame them if they kidnap americans to get Obama's attention.
I would advise you to keep away from PORT HARCOURT+environs (kidnap) and JOS+environs (riot). Even Nigerians don't visit those cities anymore. Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Calabar, Ibadan, are a must-visit, along with most other cities.
You'll be very fine, just don't do touristy crap like travelling alone by road. Stay at reputable hotels. Don't carry cash around and avoid late outings when you're alone.
As for killing people with light skin, another LOL. Where do these stories come from?
