Don't throw your bali-song, this ain't the movies. If you start practicing now with a bunch of old kitchen knives, in ten years, you will be good enough to throw any knife, till then, stick with the double ended pieces of steel used for throwing, The first rule of knife fighting is,,, don't throw your knife!! The movies make everything look easy, but, those knives are stuck in there and the frame is spliced on a perfect throw which actually landed 20 feet away from it's intended target. So, start practicing. You got time.

Using a non-throwing knife takes a lot of practice and even then the results will be mixed since the balance thends to be rather poor.

    NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT.

I'm, probably, one of the most experienced knife throwers on this board - OK. If you want to throw a knife then use a, 'throwing knife' that's specifically designed to be thrown.

If you don't take this advice then you're going to end up with a lot of broken knives and knife parts all over the floor.

well yes, but knives not made to be thrown will be harder to control then purpose built ones, since purpose built ones are balanced to be easily thrown and stuck into a target, most kitchen knives, etc, aren't balanced, so they're harder to get to stick and be accurate, but you can train to be able to throw all kinds of knives.

i mean you can use them im sure sometimes they will stick

but an actual trowing knife is a specialty made knife!

Yes, but some would be better for throwing than others, based on their weight distribution (handle/blade) and size.

no because those knives aren't balanced and throwing knives are
