Why is the Black Eagle Germany's national animal and coat of arms?

I know that it's apart of the coat of arms and it's the national animal and emblem but why? Was some government guy inspired when he saw it and made it the coat of arms during a war or something? Does Germany think it represents something like freedom? (If so why?)

P.S. I really have tried searching the web for it. Can't find much

The eagle used to be the symbol of Jupiter (the God father) and force in the roman army.

In the year 800 Charlemagne tried to form a state on the ideas of the roman empire - including him as the Emperor. So he used the roman symbols. On his palace in Aachen was a golden eagle. And so this symbol has become the coat of arms of the contemporary Germany.
