What jobs would people have had during the Wild West time?

So around 1888 and such. I know there would have been Sheriff's but what else?

Railroad construction worker. Texas. Towns often had names adopted from the classical world of the Greeks or Romans - something like Hippolyta would fit. It depends when exactly you set your story;the Wild West could be said to have begun with the end of The Civil War (some would say even earlier) and continued into the early 20th century.During this period, handgun and rifle technology moved swiftly,so your deputy and rancher could be armed with any of a number of firearms that were standard for the particular year your film is set in.

Some of the more obvious examples would be...

    Labourers on the rail-road

    Cowboys/Cattle herders

    Prostitutes

Going by the films, the undertaker always seemed busy.

    Probably hundreds more.
