I guess you are trying to make an ironic comment concerning something. I have no idea of what however. Government exists as a pragmatic institution, to solve natural problems of human society, when those problems cannot be fairly handled by private institutions. It is not the case that liberals wish for the government to do everything, only to handle things that would unfairly be distributed if the private sector were to handle them. Police for example. Everyone lives in the society, everyone pays taxes, and we need a police force that treats all citizens equally. If the private sector was to handle the police (which is a socialist institution), you could imagine how the people with the money would get better service then someone that could not pay. That is of course an understatement. The same is true of the fire department, roads, etc. Social Security is another program that needs to be public. We have seen program managers stealing retirement funds, as well as learning how to make money from devaluing ones retirement funds, like through short-selling. It would be disastrous to privatize Social Security.
I would argue that the government should handle all of the natural monopolies, such as utilities. As well as everything that is so vitally important, that it should not be considered a commodity.
I would also point out that the Republicans have increased the size of government to monumental levels every time that they could for the past 30 years. If the Democrats are "tax and spend liberals", then the Republicans are "borrow and spend conservatives". Because they have just added their spending to the deficit, rather than paying for it. I would also point out that George W. Bush proposed a governmental program to teach people to be married.
