There have been many small independent studies that have said that, but it's aways small privately funded groups (funded by pharmaceutical companies, alchohol companies etc.). The Partnership for a Drug Free America are usually the ones putting out that information. They have a big official sounding name, but they are actually just a privately run group that gets all their funding from alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical companies (all the companies who don't want to see pot legalized).

Now it may be true, or it may not be true. Pot is not good for your lungs, so as a pot smoker, I would not call it "safe". Whenever you burn any plant matter (tobacco and pot are both plants), it will produce tar. But how much tar it produces is anyone's guess. Inhaling ANY smoke from ANY plant is not good for your lungs.

But does it cause lung cancer? No. All the credible organizations that are not privately funded have proved this. This is because thc in marijuana actually attacks cancer cells. But that still doesn't make it very good for your lungs.

if you smoke weed heavily then it affects your menstrual cycle and it burns hotter than cigs so it singes your lungs, so no it is not harmless but its not the same as cigs either
