Germans. Telling time. The time is 4:45 PM. Are both versions correct:?

A) sechzehn Uhr fünfundvierzig

B) Viertel vor siebzehn

    A) is correct

    B) No, that's wrong. If you go for the viertel/halb-version, you'd only use the 12-hour-clock. So: "Viertel vor fünf" or "dreiviertel fünf" (regionally different and confusing for some people. If you follow that link below, the 4th result shows you a map of Germany, how the different versions are distributed...)

I'm not a German, but I would expect with "viertel vor" to hear "fünf" rather than "siebzehn".
