Audition song for Les Miserables!?!?

I'm auditioning for a local production of Les miz in my area and need help with audition song ideas. I am open to any part, and I'm a mezzo-soprano. My range is a little higher and lower then a normal mezzos if that helps too. I would really appreciate tips and wormup ideas too. I need a song that tells a story. Maybe "Taking Chances" by Celine Dion? Or the glee verision? But idk I just need help! Thanks!

Update:

For that person I just thought I should have let you know that i've been in over 17musicals and 13plays. I also take dance under the instruction of a Tony award winner and a Tony nominee plus someone in the original cast of Chicago on broadway. I have tons of experience in all areas of the theater community, and I know that you generally audition with a song from a musical, but after doing some research, I've found that Les miserables is a pop operetta and auditioning with a pop song would be suitable. If I'm worried about being compared then I shouldn't sing at all because someone will always compare you to someone else.

Rule #1 for musical theatre: ALWAYS audition with a song from a musical when auditioning for a MUSICAL. Especially "Les Miserables"; Schonberg and Boublil have a distinct style of music, that is borderline operatic. When I audition for a musical, I usually look for a character that I would like to play, so my audition song is similar to the style of music as the show I'm auditioning for, as well as the personality as my desired character. I strongly recommend a ballad, because nearly every song in Les Mis is a ballad. Here are my favorite contemporary mezzo-soprano ballads. All musical theatre songs, (all good ones, anyway), tell a story:

A New Life - Jekyll and Hyde

As Long As He Needs Me - Oliver!

Come to Your Senses - Tick, Tick, Boom!

God Help the Outcasts - The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Heaven, Help My Heart - Chess

I Don't Know How to Love Him - Jesus Christ Superstar

I Know Him So Well - Chess

I'd Give My Life for You - Miss Saigon

Send in the Clowns - A Little Night Music (extremely difficult, only for trained voice)

Tell Me It's Not True - Blood Brothers

You Must Love Me - Evita

"Les Miserables" is one of my favorite musicals! Break a leg!

You really don't know anything about auditioning for a musical, do you? When you audit on for a musical you audit on WITH A SONG FROM A MUSICAL.. you don't audit on with a POP song.. especially a pop song by a famous singer because your performance WILL be compared to that famous singer.. and YOU CAN'T WIN THAT COMPARISON... It truly relies upon who you're auditioning for! From the education given i might say sing some thing people often do no longer think of of. no longer mainstream musicals like depraved or Grease or something like that. some thing unique like "there's a outstanding, positive line" from highway Q or "My guy" from humorous lady. think of of a few much less primary musicals which you like and %. a music which you think of you will be able to desire to sing properly. I picked "electrical energy" from Billy Elliot. yet i became auditioning for youthful Cosette so it could be distinctive.
