He is talking about the concept of dharma or the idea that everyone has a kind of special duty to perform. The whole purpose of life is to find out what that is. In order to find out what that is you have to follow you inner truth. Each brief life seems like a mere flicker of existence in the universe. It seems impossible for it to have significance. Yet, each individual has a role to fill. You have to find your unique role in the universe and fulfill it, because no one else can.

He may have had a point. For example, I doubt that the Christ would call anyone names, even if he would disagree with someone. Every criticism, especially well-intentioned, can be used constructively - if some people become offended, it's only their loss.

Significance does not mean importance. Importance is relevant whereas significance is comparative. What s important to you is not necessarily significant to the world but that doesn t take away it s importance in your perspective. We all have something to do and to not do it, well....that in itself may be significant but the consequences of what transpires will show you it s importance to you (i.e you don t go to work, and get fired). So, it s important but not significant. In a deep way, a way to be significant is to not to do it. If it s that important, perhaps head would turn, making it significant.

Life is temporary and very short when compared to the universe [ and probably afterlife ] so whatever you do is insignificant and will probably be forgotten and have little effect on humanity, However it is important that you do it as that is what makes you, you and that is important.

It is better to be someone who does things instead of someone who just talks about doing things and never does it. If you need to get a job, you can't get someone else to do it for you.

    that is not totally true
