How do I type out a long dash using the keyboard?

(TOSHIBA Laptop, Windows 7 Microsoft Works Word Processor)

Update:

a dash that is like this: -- except they are connected. on a windows 7 TOSHIBA lap top on microsoft works word processor.

    Try these:

    CTRL/Numeric - (the - next to the numeric keypad) gets an en-dash.

    ALT/CTRL/Numeric - (the - next to the numeric keypad) gets an em-dash

    To see these and several other special characters, do this:

    1. Click the Insert->Special Characters menu item.

    2. Click the Special Characters tab.

    Press the control button, while holding down, type the minus button on the numeric keypad. If you do not have a numeric keypad, I don't know what to do.

    Press and hold down the shift key and press and hold down the _ key at same time until the line is as long as you want. _____________________

    In Microsoft Works Word type in the word or words high light them and in tool bar click underline (U) or if need in blank space do the above.
