    The Killer Angels -- Michael Shaara (the battle of Gettysburg)

    Dawn of Darkness -- Lee Brandenbrug, Matt Isaacs (World War II -- Pacific theater)

    The Longest Day -- Cornelius Ryan (D-Day) (non-fiction, but reads like a novel)
