In most states it is illegal to catch wild fish and put them in an aquarium or other pond. I would advise against it because of disease issues that can kill off your pet fish. If you really want to do this put the minnow in a seperate aquarium for a month and see if it lives, then try it. Temperature is also a major issue usually they like it much cooler than pet aquarium fish.
