According to the best efforts of linguists and researchers, the root of the present word God is the Sanskrit word hu which means to call upon, invoke, implore. But the Persian equivalent is the word Khoda which is pretty close and may be a clue to the word's origin..

The name God, would be a noun, note capital G. It comes from the old German. It was first used when King James had a new version on the Christian Bible written.
