do i strengthen zinc by hot working or cold working ..

This reference http://mysite.du.edu/~jcalvert/phys/zinc.htm seems to indicate that cold-working is effective for zinc; however it is seldom used in stressed applications without at least a small amount of alloying material. See for example ZAMAK die-casting alloy which contains 4.1% aluminum and 1% copper.
