However, since you asked here, I'll tell you that those films are entertaining, and I love Donnie Yen and the fight choreography of Sammo Hung. The music is also fantastic in them, overall, quality films.
But the stories themselves are HIGHLY exaggerated retellings of the events of Yip Man's actual life. There are entire facts and sections of his life that those films didn't cover, and in some cases, they completely changed the facts. This is a regular practice for biography movies and anything "based" on a "true story".
Remember, the Ip Man films were designed to be quality Gung-Fu films first, and dramatic biography movies second. Treat them like tall tales based around a man who was real and was actually amazing.
