What is the absolute cheapest anti depressant besides Citalopram (celexa) ?

Citalopram has no effect for me. Paroxetine is $50. But because of my major medication's expense I need something really cheap. Any help would be appreciated, I might can get away with a phone call to the doctor instead of waiting 2 more months for the visit.

Also I am right in the middle of the disability process, so no help with meds yet.

Update:

Please forgive me Rajendran, I do appreciate your answer in all caps - but I have had a psychosis for 20 years. I have found that managing it requires "Better living through chemistry".

Update 2:

I don't have insurance.

Unfortunately some antidepressants will work for some but may not for you. So the price of an antidepressant isn't going to help you. You do have to have the medication that works for you to live a happy and productive life no matter what anybody else may say. Please go to the site nami.org which is the site for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. On the site you can find the phone number for your local chapter. They are there for support, information and they have the best resources for the help that you need in your area. Many times there are free or very low cost resources. You can call the Pharmaceutical company that makes your antidepressant, they have programs that will allow you to get your medication for free if you can't afford it.

Also if you are in the US you qualify for a medical card that will pay for all of your medical help and your prescriptions. You just need to go to your nearest Human Resources Office. I wish you the best!

Different anti-depressants work differently with everyone. I had no real effects from Zoloft, not even to reduce the depression. I'm having pretty good results with the Celexa, (had even better with Lexapro, but my insurance won't cover it). I too was having sleeping problems, so my doc prescribed Ambien (not the CR, just plain ol' Ambien to get me to sleep). This combination works for me, so I plan to stick with it. If you find you're having sleep problems with the Zoloft, you may want to go ahead & take a sleep aid. Good luck!

Do you have a Target, Walmart, etc in your area that has the $4/$10 programs? You can look on their websites and the have lists of the meds on the program. I think my Paroxitine is $10 a month at Target.

The programs I have mentioned do not require insurance. These are the price's for everyone.

This may sound like a trite answer; but it's ANYthing that " works "- for you !! It has long been known in the World of Medicine- that we're ALL subject to the vagaries of the "Placebo Effect". And that as Long as we BELIEVE a certain medication is going to help Us, it probably WILL- thanks to whatever "mind altering stimulants" there are available in Our own brains... So if you Believe that more expensive drugs automatically mean better "results", then the Answer to your Question IS; Whatever anti depressant One that works for YOU- that you can afford !!! Otherwise- it's whatever One your Body AND Mind- reacts to Best...

    In the long run.

    Liquid St. John's Wort.

It is an SSRI that kicks in after 2 and a half weeks, having none of the awful side effects of drugs.
