Rock and Pop, what are some songs you didn't know were covers?

And when you heard the original (if you did), did you prefer that to the cover? Did you find any other covers that you preferred to that first cover you heard?

BQ: Iggy Pop song of the day?

BQ2: Other song of the day?

Crank that originally by soulja boy (obviously) first time I heard it, it was by a band called "i set my friends on fire". It was a screamo version of the song and I preferred the cover. there was an entire album cover of slipknot by a band called metal guitar. I bought this album thinking it was slipknot but it was only a cover. All the songs had more melody and they filled in gaps in the songs with solos. They did better than slipknot with only 4 members and slipknot have 9 ish?. A shame some of these cover bands don't actually come up with good original songs.

One cover I thought was awesome although i heard the original first is a song called toxicity by system of a down. I searched the cover on youtube. It's acoustic... sounds awesome:

  • I'd never heard another version of 'I Fought the Law' by The Clash and so i didn't realise it was a cover until about 2 years later. I didn't know I love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett was a cover and I thought the Lars Frederiksen & The Bastards version of Billy Bragg's To Have and Have Not was an original.

    BA: 1970

BA2: Murder City Nights - Radio Birdman

Bands have been doing this by way of fact the start of the century. the belief is often a doorway to discover how a band works, to reveal off to a crowd, or basically considering the fact which you like the music. be certain you do and if somebody tells you its lame spit of their face for their lack of awareness. music has been coated or idolized for who's conscious of ways long. And its no longer alt. bands masking pop bands. Pop bands have coated rock bands, rock bands have coated punk bands, rock bands have coated r&b bands, r&b bands have coated jazz bands. masking songs is like studying a 4-chord shape; the 2nd you do it, you're gonna prefer to instruct it off in front of a crowd. The Lion Sleeps this evening has been coated a set of situations in 80 years. it extremely is all I could desire to declare.

I always thought that "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell was an original until I heard the original on on the San Andreas soundtrack sung by Gloria Jones in 1964. I like hers better.

BQ-His version of Madonna's "Ray of Light."

    BQ2 Slam by Onyx.

A long time ago I used to think When You Were Mine - Cyndi Lauper was hers but then I found out Prince did it first when I bought Dirty Mind. Hard to say whose is better. I like that Cyndi doesn't change the gender in the song.
