More and more apartment owners are getting alarm systems - not just for intrusion protection, but also to keep an eye on building management! The new systems available today have interactive services that can notify you anytime anyone enters the space, even if the system is not armed, and even if the person entering disarms an armed system.
Other attractive features can include systems that are 100% wireless - that means the sensors communicate to the control panel without wires, so there is no drilling or mess that the building owner might complain about. Equally important, the system does not need or use a phone line - there is a built-in cell radio. No phone line to cut! All this means that can even move this system with you when you move - and add to the system at that time, if you like.
The world has really changed for these systems - shop around on-line, and be sure to check out the reputation of any company you consider.
Oh, and by the way: Brink's changed its name to Broadview, sold out to ADT this year: you will not find the interactive services mentioned above with ADT - or a system for a renter. Most alarm companies won't help you there, but some will!
With over 20 years in the alarm industry, I currently work for FrontPoint Security (www.frontpointsecurity.com), a leading nationwide (US & Canada) wireless alarm services provider. Our company offers cellular monitoring and next generation features the “big boy” traditional companies have not figured out yet. I am offering this advice to increase awareness of what alarm systems can (and should!) do. The more we all know, the better!
