how many days does it take to ship something from canada to san diego?

i've experienced very erratic postal service to/from Canada.

i've had packages get here in 4-5 days and i've had packages that have taken 14+ days. i doubt if it's the packages themselves since letters are practically as bad averaging ~7-8 days.

i have a theory that if something comes to me from Eastern Canada, it might travel through the Canadian system longer and thus take longer, but i never had enough volume to see a solid pattern.
