They could be just a mimic of nature, judging by the shapes, sizes and coloration of the land on and around the formations. Or they could be something beyond anyone's worldly imagination. It could be just the very tops of something HUGE beneath it all, similar to that of a buried castle or pyramid, only way bigger! Stonehenge and it's relatives could be different markers off the same building. Or they could be markers to point in certain directions to find a great hidden truth. There is so much that people don't know of this planet and it's previous inhabitants. What they do know is merely an educated guess, but certainly not considered a 'fact', at least not in my book. If they had something to take themselves personally back into the era of there findings, where they could study and observe what went on with the creators of these structures, then I might consider there studies a fact. =p This is a great question about a great find in archeology! Awesome picture and article in the link as well.
