What is your opinion illegal accused of stealing from roommate in Southeast?
SOUTHEAST — A federal immigration warrant has been placed on a suspected illegal immigrant charged with stealing cash and jewelry from a roommate, state police said today.
Guillermo Lopez, 24, a Brewster resident from Guatemala, was charged Wednesday by Brewster state police with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, stemming from the incident at a Route 22 apartment.
He was arraigned before Town Justice Greg Folchetti, who sent him to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
During routine check-in procedures for Lopez, jail officials suspected he was in the country illegally and notified federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, who lodged the detainer warrant.
Lopez is due back in Town Court on July 15.
