what is the difference between HMO and PPO?

which is better?

what do you prefer?

I'm signing up for the first time for health benefites and don't know much about it.

    i,ve had HMO,s. they have defined limitations compared to a PPO. my experience with both has been good. many doctors say hmo,s limit treatment. i have a blue advantage HMO right now. seems to be similar to a PPO, except i can,t go out side my provider area for a doc. if the PPO is twice as expensive, go with the HMO. ask more questions, there are prompter web sites that will provide questions you can ask.
