Actually large bellies is a sign of malnutrition and can be a sign of liver failure (ascites).

Wow. Seems you have some issues. First of all. Not every atheist on here says this. It is not brought up in every single question. Also, there are atheists who will state it as starving people in the world. It sounds like you are trying to blame all atheists for saying something when only a few said it. It also sounds like you are exaggerating about the number of times this is used. Second of all, it is an example. There are lots of types of cruelty in the world. This is one of them. The people who believe that a god exists always claim that the god is a loving god and is all powerful. If a god exists and is loving and all powerful then why do any kids ever starve? Why do kids end up losing arms or legs to landmines? Why do kids die of disease? Why are some kids born with horrible birth defects? Why are some children forced into slavery or made into soldiers? The children are used in this example because they are pretty much defenseless. Horrible things are happening to them and if a god existed and that god was loving and that god was all powerful then that god should help these children. Yet that does not happen. So either the god does not exist or is not loving or is not all powerful. You go on to say that the god is not supposed to do anything but instead is relying on the people to do the work. However, the people are failing and the children are ending up suffering. How is that right? If you saw your neighbor's kids starving literally to death because the parents did nothing to help them, do you tell yourself that it is the parent's responsibility and you just ignore it? No, if you did that then you are guilty along with the parents of inflicting the cruelty on the children. If a god exists and has the powers to stop the suffering of the children and does not take action then that god would be evil. So judging by the world either a god does not exists or an evil god exists. Those are the only two possibilities. As for evidence that a god does not exist, atheists do not have to give evidence that a god does not exist. Actually, it is impossible to prove anything does not exist. That is basic logic. You can only prove that something exists. There is no evidence that a god exists. Some religious people will claim that a god's love is evidence of existence but then the cruelty of the world shows that this love does not exist so that evidence of existence is no good. No one has ever been able to give even a shred of evidence that a god or gods exist.

Worms can cause many problems, but if any child ever had enough worms in them to cause the severely bloated belly you are talking about would be long dead.

The truth is that it is a condition known as Kwashiorkor

It is caused by a lack of protein and too many carbs combined with general lack of food. This ca nlead to fluid and gas building up in the abdomen causing the bloated appearance

Their stomachs are not big because they are full; they're big because they are swollen. There is a disease caused by malnutrition which causes their bodies to do this. The stomachs go down in size when they've been nourished accordingly.

What I learned in my parasitology class is the following. Areas with famine, which are generally developing (third world) nations. They, besides having famine, generally have poor sanitation, poor disease control, basically poor everything that you would take for granted in the U.S.

The big bellies are parasites living in their gut. Many parasites inhabit different parts of the intestine. The big bellies are due to worm types of parasites, they get huge! They sit in the intestines and consume (i.e., parasitize) the (little) food that the people do eat. A bad thing about that is that the parasites can consume certain vitamins that the people need, so the people have to eat more to be able to get the vitamins or whatnot, and by doing so they further feed the parasites.

    Parasites are *bad* things!
