Most international airlines and the ones like United, America, Delta are more likely to. operate 747s on longer flights, such as to Europe and Asia because the 747 can handle the longer distance. For going to Chicago and JFK, the 757 and 767 are more commonly used. Out of LAX, i found that 747 are more common on routes to London, Korea, China, Germany, etc...

747's are still used by many airlines, mostly on long haul flights. United still has twenty four 747's in service with an average age of 15 yrs. old.

United Airlines still has quite a fleet of 747-400's. Most, if not all, are used for transpacific and transatlantic flights.
