What happens when you leave West Point?

Upon graduation, I understand that you serve 5 years as a 2nd Lieutenant, but are you automatically shipped off overseas and become a run-of-the-mill army dog? Or, do you have choices over whether you want to be a medic or MP or anything like that?

well first thing you are not going to become a run-of-the-mill army dog.

When you graduate west point you become an officer and you'll have to lead your platoon. Compared to, OCS, ROTC or the other senior military college academies (ex: The Citadel, Virginia Military Institute) west point cadets get more choices and better advantages then the others. Thats why West Point is one of the hardest colleges to get into. Not trying to be picky but as an officer you don't become a medic but you can become an MP officer. "Medics" in the officer corp are people who are actually doctors and already obtained there medical degree then joined the army as an officer.

And yes people from west point actually get choices of what MOS( Military Occupation Specialty) they want. So if you want to become an Infantry Officer then you'll become one.

It also depends what's your MOS if your going to be shipped off to overseas. If your job is a Infantry Officer or Armor Officer you have a likely chance of getting shipped overseas. If you are a Medical officer(Doctor, Nurse, Vetinarian), Finance Officer, or Transport Officer, you are least likely to be shipped overseas.

If you go to ROTC then you don't really have that luxury of picking your MOS like the West Point cadets do. You list what job you want then the army picks for you.

    Do your research!!

Upon graduation, you are put into a specialized branch (Infantry, Military Intelligence, Logistics, for example.) You will attend follow on training in that specialty - usually about six months. Then you will report to your first duty station and become a Platoon Leader for a platoon that has the same specialty. You will not be a medic or a mechanic or anything specialized like that. Officers lead and manage, they don't specialize as much (in general - there are exceptions.)

Your preferences are taken into consideration, but at the end of the day, the Army will put you where you are needed.

    Hello Nicholas.

West Point officers are not MEDICS!

That is an enlisted job. Likewise, they are not Military Police cops.

West Point officers are OFFICERS of the Army. They are leaders.

No, I don't think that every graduate from West Point is shipped overseas. But, during their Army tour then can expect to go overseas.

What do you mean a "run-of-the-mill" army dog? Are you that disrespectful?

Is your question about YOU wanting to become an officer?

    Best wishes,

What makes the land belong to Russian Jews? yet you're suitable approximately Arabs being a minority, by using fact Palestinians are not Arab. Palestinians have lived interior the section by using fact the Neolithic; they are descended from an identical center genetic inventory as a number of the Jews interior the diaspora. Israelis comprehend this- they use the Palestinian genome to study with Jewish populations throughout the time of the international in an attempt to instruct a link with Palestine. It does exist, yet basically a small proportion of Jewry it. If all Palestinians are Arab, does not that instruct that Jews are Arabs too? The Crusaders did no longer incredibly expel all individuals, the Crusades weren't approximately expansionism, comparable with the Turks. Do you have any evidence of this? there is plenty evidence that Jews have been expelled inspite of each thing- and that i do no longer think of there are various that dispute it. merely curious, the place did you arrive on the statistic, "on condition that then Arabs have been a tiny minority in Israel, Judea and Samaria"? in view that there became no such place as Israel by using fact the Assyrian conquest, nor Judea on condition that Hadrian.

Just like in ROTC, or OCS you are evaluated and rated, based on that you are assigned a branch(job) off your wishlist. After graduation and commissioning, you go to all your officer and branch training, then to your first duty station. Then you are deployable.

Search for the different Army Officer Branches on google to look at the different options. But worry about getting into Westpoint or ROTC first.
