How do I extend my sump pump drainage?

There is always a swampy area around where my sump pump drains the water. I was thinking about extending the pvc pipe with holes in it down the yard about 40 feet. I just do not know how much gravel i should use to surround the pipe.

if you are going to put in perforated pipe to extend the drainage dig your trench the width of a shovel as deep as the existing and put the pipe in so you have about 2 inches of fall over the 40ft.

fill the gravel around the pipe and cover it with about 2 inches of gravel over the pipe
