Baking Soda for Brushing Teeth Questions!?
1. Does baking soda actually WHITENS the teeth, or just BRIGHTENS it?
2. Does it keel the enamels after lots of uses? How often is too often to use baking soda for brushing?
3. Would it be bad if the baking soda was expired? or like more than a year old?
4. What toothpastes do you recommend that has baking soda in it?

If you look at the ingredients in a bottle of toothpaste, it usually says, "Baking Soda" or sometimes its even on the front of the bottle, "With Baking Soda". That's why some toothpaste is white. If you want to just use the Baking Soda, put some in a Dixie cup and add water until it has the consistency of toothpaste. The just dip your toothbrush in the mixture and you are ready to go. You can also use Hydrogen Peroxide to brush your teeth too. (The stuff that comes in the dark brown bottle) Hope this helps! ☺

Your enamel has pores and you should talk to your dentist before you do this because he/she might actually think it's a bad idea. As for the expiration date I would follow the guidelines there there for a reason. Again ask your dentist you can even call them on the phone.Source(s): Dental Assistant

It isnt recommended. It layers off tooth enamel. That will do damage later.
