If you're not a web designer yourself, then you must hire one. It's quite a complicated task to build one from scratch. There several open source applications out there to create an ecommerce site. Such as ZenCart or osCommerce, but that's only a framwork of the site. You will still need a payment gateway and a merchant account. Keep in mind that each credit card transaction will cost you money. Your merchant account will cost you about $30-40 per month and each transaction about $0.35 plus 3-4% of the entire transaction. Consider speaking with a web design company about what you're looking for and get a quote on the project. Hope this helps.

Starting an online business could be very tough especially if you have no idea about internet marketing. Not only time and money are needed to build a website that targets more customers but also your perseverance and intelligence combined together to top your website among competitors.

I have read some useful and updated information at Ms.Valerie's website. http://www.ValFlint.com .

I would suggest building links to wherever you would like searchers to land. If your category pages are the most useful, link there - if the articles are most useful, link there.

I'd also suggest you download the free ebook about internet marketing here:http://tinyurl.com/237cvqj .

It's a simple and straight-forward ebook with step-by-step instructions that can produce a lot of traffic, leads and income for you if you're willing to put in the small amount of time and effort to do it.

Im currently doing a Unit at college about E-commerce systems. (only writinig about them though) but i have also created a silly website or two at college.

Note pad can be used to create a website, but requires more knowledge of coding, However, if you have FrontPage Thats pretty easy to make a website on, as its more drop and drag. There was some other program that was used for making websites, but i cant remember the name, something like dreamcast or something lol, (thats probably not that close) lol

I use a program called Site Build It. It's extremely user friendly, especially for people that don't know any coding at all. Since you know some HTML, you're ahead of the curve. You didn't mention if you are going to be selling actual hard goods or if your just going to be the middle man for your customer. No worries though, if you're selling the actual product yourself this page might help you, http://hardgoods.sitesell.com/whfe.html

Site Build It caters to your specific needs and walks you through building your site with the "action guide". It's a ten day, elaborate, "work at your own pace" help guide. I'll leave the link to the action guide, and some helpful ebooks below.

Hope you find what you're looking for, good luck!
